Vilnius (May 11, 2016)–On the 68th anniversary of the Independence of the State of Israel (this year it is on May 12) the Embassy of Israel in Lithuania will mark the day in a different way: together with Save the Children day centers in a number of towns of Lithuania. The funds assigned for the traditional National Day reception will be used to present the children and the centers with a variety of equipment, furniture, games and other supplies that are required for the daily operations of these centers.
“We are honored to join forces with Save the Children organization and to contribute our modest support to improve the children’s surroundings and environment, which we hope they will successfully use not only for doing their homework, but also for having more fun together, which is no less important” Israeli ambassador Amir Maimon said.
On May 12 and 13 Embassy of Israel teams will visit Save the Children day centers in Alytus and the Alytus district and in the Utena, Pasvalis, Druskininkai, Širvintos and Kaišiadorys municipalities, to meet altogether about 300 children. The wish list is quite varied and includes furniture, computers, kitchenware and cutlery, home appliances, stationary supplies, art supplies, television sets and many more. In addition, every child will be presented with a blue and white schoolbag with a light reflector.
Save the Children manager in Lithuania Rasa Dičpetrienė called the initiative by the Israeli Embassy an excellent example of how we can help and contribute to the safety and happiness of Lithuanian children. “For all of us, both teachers and children, this attention and support means a lot. It is not only financial, but also a great boost to morale,” she said.
Since the opening of the Israeli embassy in Lithuania in January of 2015, ambassador Amir Maimon has been continuosly outlining the activities of the embassy with a focus on children as high priority. The embassy has initiated and supported a number of projects in different spheres of child and youth education, sports and social and health care in cooperation with state authorities, academic and cultural institutions, schools and NGOs.
The embassy said they appreciate the sincere help of Senukai UAB, Kauno baldai AB and Eurobiuras UAB, who not only responded with their very best proposals, but also assisted in the timely delivery of goods purchased. The embassy also thanked Snaigė AB, Maxima LT UAB and the Lithuanian Road Administration under the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania for their contribution to the project. The Embassy of Israel thanks the local municipalities for their attention and commitment to the further and on-going support of activities at the centers.
