Israeli Embassy Photo Exhibit of Pope in Israel Opens in Panevėžys

A photo exhibit of Pope Francis’s visit to Israel in 2014 was unveiled in Panevėžys on January 14, 2016. The exhibit was the initiative of the Israeli embassy and ambassador Amir Maimon spoke at its Panevėžys opening, thanking organizers including the Panevėžys Jewish Community, the Panevėžys Catholic bishopric and the Panevėžys municipality, as well as the audience for coming.

Bishop Lionginas Virbalas hailed cooperation between Israel and Lithuania and called on everyone to be tolerant of other ethnicities and religions. Panevėžys mayor Rytis Račkauskas said these sorts of events strengthen mutual understanding between peoples and faiths. Panevėžys Jewish Community chairman Gennady Kofman praised the Israeli embassy for its outreach and high level of communications and presented the ambassador with a gift. He also presented a new book about the Holocaust in Panevėžys to the audience. Students from the Panevėžys Kazimieras Paltarokas Gymnasium were among the first to view the exhibition. It will be open to the public until mid-February at Smėlynės street no. 10 in Panevėžys.
