Eightieth Anniversary of Liquidation and Uprising of Vilnius Ghetto: International Conference “Ideologies of Hate and Hope in Modern Jewish History”

You’re invited to the final event in our commemoration of the 80th anniversary of liquidation of the Vilnius ghetto this year, the international conference “Ideologies of Hate and Hope in Modern Jewish History” in Constitution Hall in Building 1 at the Lithuanian parliament on Tuesday, November 28, 2023.

The conference will be conducted in Lithuanian and English with translations. It is being held through the efforts of the Polish Jewish History Institute, YIVO and the Lithuanian Jewish Community. It will be streamed on the LJC’s facebook page.

10:00 A.M. Welcome speeches by YIVO director Jonathan Brent and speaker of parliament Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen.

10:15 A.M. Jonathan Brent presents “Judaism and Bolshevism: The Myth of the Foundation of Modern Anti-Semitism.”

10:40 A.M. Jochen Hellbeck, history professor, Rutgers University: “Judaeo-Bolshevism: Nazi Germany’s Enemy No. 1.”

11:00 A.M. Violeta Davoliūtė, Professor at Vilnius University Institute of International Relations and Political Science, and Senior Researcher at the Lithuanian Cultural Research Institute. Visiting Professor at the École des hautes études en sciences sociales (2016) and an Associate Research Scholar at Yale (2015-2016).

11:30 A.M. Linas Venclauskas of Vytautas Magnus University and the Suhihara Fund: “Jewish Socialists and Jewish Zionists: The Anti-Semitic Perspective among Lithuanians (from the late 19th century till 1940).”
