Lithuanian Jewish Community chairwoman Faina Kukliansky took part in events as part of Lithuanian prime minister Ingrida Šimonytė’s working visit to Israel.
The delegation began the visit at the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial.
After speaking to the American Jewish Committee conference being held in Tel Aviv, Lithuanian PM Šimonytė met with Israel’s president Isaac Herzog, who expressed interest in the pace of restitution for stolen Jewish property in Lithuania.
On Sunday Šimonytė met with the Association of Lithuanian Jews in Israel and spoke about the contributions the Lithuanian Jewish community had made to Lithuanian statehood. At the same forum LJC chairwoman Faina Kukliansky spoke to Litvaks and guests about the process for obtaining compensation from the Goodwill Foundation. Association members expressed interesting in obtaining Lithuanian citizenship. They said a group of around 70 Litvaks from Israel would attend the commemoration in Vilnius of the 80th anniversary of the liquidation of the Vilnius ghetto this September.
