In the night from November 9 to 10 in Tilsit the windows of Jewish stores were smashed and the synagogue was destroyed. Some of the story displays are already being repaired while others are left abandoned; it is clear the owners are afraid and don’t want to appear in public. Products are still visible on the store shelves while children are still smashing glass. The synagogue is located on an intersection of streets and is somewhat away from other, residential buildings. As of noon, November 10, the interior is still on fire. Several police officers are standing around. There is no sign of fire engines; on the street a single hose is connected to a hydrant and someone wearing a helmet was observed inside the synagogue.

That same night at midnight a unit of SS men and over a dozen civilians assembled at the magistrate’s on market square in Tilsit (four columns of four men).
