In a recent facebook post an unattributed poem appeared on Vytautas Landesbergis’s page  on August 2 using the pejorative “žydelka,” roughly equivalent to “Jew-boy” but in this case “Jew-girl,” considered offensive in modern Lithuanian.

Labiausiai nenorėčiau
kad mano tautiečiai nusiteiktų
prieš žydus
po ir dėl Šimašiaus užtemimo.

Slapčia norėčiau
kad atsirastų vienas kitas žydas
protingas ir drąsus
nepritariąs Šimašiui.

Ir visiems broliams lietuviams
sakau ir sakau iš tikrųjų
jau ketvirtį amžiaus:
niekada nepamirškite
kad Dievo Motina kuriai
meldžiamės kurios
užtarimo prašome
buvo šventa žydelka.

A rough translation:

Mostly

I’d mostly not like
My compatriots to be predisposed
against Jews
Following and because of Šimašius’s eclipse

I would like secretly
For a Jew or two to appear
Intelligent and brave
Opposing Šimašius.

And to all my Lithuanian brethren
I say and I say truly
For a quarter century now:
Never forget
That the Mother of God to whom
We Pray, Whose
Intercession we beseech
Was a holy Jew-girl.
