Tolerance campaign “The Bagel Shop” is glad to announce that the photo contest “Signs of the Lithuanian Jewish Culture” is now open for submissions.
You are kindly invited to send us photos or their compositions, capturing traces of the Lithuanian Jewish cultural and historical heritage as well as signs of the Jewish Community’s presence in Lithuania nowadays.
The deadline for submissions is 30 April, 2015. The winners will be rewarded!

REGULATIONS
OF THE CONTEST „SIGNS OF THE LITHUANIAN JEWISH CULTURE“

GENERAL PROVISIONS
1. The contest is organized by the tolerance campaign „The Bagel Shop“, which is implemented by the Lithuanian Jewish (Litvakes) Community (further – Organizer).
2. These regulations define the aim of the contest and its main rules, according to which the contest is organized and the winners are chosen and awarded.
3. The regulations are approved by the head of the campaign „The Bagel Shop“ and publicly announced in the official website of the Lithuanian Jewish (Litvakes) Community www.lzb.lt and via other means.
4. The contest is a public event, dedicated to discovering the signs of the Lithuanian Jewish culture through the camera lens.
5. When submitting works to the Contest, the person accepts the conditions of participation, indicated in the Regulations; confirms that he has read them and has no claims.
AIM OF THE CONTEST
1. There is probably no city nor town in Lithuania which does not have signs that witness the presence of Jewish communities or prominent Jewish personalities in different historic times. Modern society should not turn away from the Jewish culture, which was flourishing in Lithuania not so long ago. The contest intends to put in the spotlight the remaining heritage of the Jewish history or culture, the legacy of lost Jewish lives in specific locations as well as the activities of the Jewish community nowadays.
TASKS OF THE CONTEST
1. To encourage society to become interested in the historical and cultural heritage of the Lithuanian Jewish Community.
2. To record vanishing historical signs of present and past, related to life or burial of Jews in cities and towns.
3. To encourage the young generation to act, participate and express civil position about the historic experience of the Jewish nation.
4. To be interested in the activities of the Lithuanian Jewish Community nowadays.
PARTICIPATION CONDITIONS
Requirements for participants:
1. Only physical persons can participate in the contest. There are no age nor other restrictions.
2. There are no restrictions on the amount of works submitted per participant and his eligibility to the categories of the awards.
3. In order to become a participant in the contest, a person must meet the conditions indicated below.
Requirements for works:
1. Photos, photomontages, photo collages and photo compositions (further – Works) submitted for the contest must be original.
2. Works must reflect (express) the Lithuanian Jewish cultural heritage in Lithuania, contribute to promoting tolerance and reduce incitement for anti-Semitism and hatred[1]:
2.1. In each Lithuanian town or city there are historical signs (ex. ghetto, houses, shops, fragments of architecture, interiors, elements of decor, symbols, streets, places where Jews were shot, gravestones, etc.), related to the historic heritage of the Jewish nation. The participants of the contest should look for such historic signs remaining today, and record them.
2.2. Phenomena of current Jewish culture (activities, events, traditions, festivals of Jewish communities) and other signs.
3. The Work is submitted in a digital format or printed in good quality and enclosed in one envelope. Author‘s name, surname, address (may be email) and telephone number should be indicated. Address and telephone number will not be publicly announced.
4. When submitting his Work, the person must shortly describe what is depicted and what the title is (if the title exists).
5. The Works are accepted for the contest since the 2nd of February, 2015, until the 30th of April (inclusive), 2015, via email beigeliu.krautuvele@lzb.lt or address: Lithuanian Jewish (Litvakes) Community, Indrė Rutkauskaitė, Pylimo str. 4, Vilnius LT-01117.
6. A person, who submits the Work for the contest, upon submitting confirms that the objects of copyright (photos, photo-montages, photo-collages and photo compositions) belong to him and no other persons have exclusive rights to the Work, and public use of Work is not restricted otherwise than by the acts of law, valid in the Republic of Lithuania.
Criteria for evaluation and awards:
1. Works submitted for the contest will be evaluated by the Commission, appointed by the Organizer, and visitors of the „Bagel Shop“ profile in the social network Facebook.
2. Received Works will be evaluated according to criteria of artistic expression, suggestibility, and aspects of enduring value. Priority will be given to creative ideas and non-standard thinking.
3. One best Work will be selected in each of these three categories:
3.1. Sympathies of the society (a Work which received the most favorable public opinion);
3.2. Cultural shock (a Work whiche was evaluated by the Commission as having the biggest impact on promoting tolerance and reducing incitement for anti-Semitism and hatred);
3.3. Authenticity of the Jewish identity (a Work which was evaluated by the Commission as the best expression of the contribution of the Jews to the culture and history of the Lithuanian nation).
4. Organizer preserves the right to change the list of award categories and winners in case of need during the contest (more winners may be announced).
5. Winners will be publicly announced until the 1st of July, this year.
6. The Organizer will personally contact the winners of the Contest.
FINAL PROVISIONS
License
1. All participants of the contest (as well as their parents/ guardians) grant the Organizer of the contest a free, irrevocable, permanent right to use all the photos with a non-exclusive license in all ways indicated in the Law of Copyright and Related Rights (actual editing), article No. 15, during all the period of author‘s property rights’ validity for the needs of the Organizer, including, but not limited to: recreate, copy, distribute, demonstrate photos (indicating author’s name and surname) while presenting the Contest and promoting it in all types of media now or later, show the photos in a possible winners‘ exhibition, print them in a publication among the best photos of the contest, publish them online.
